Two children in Staffordshire have died just five days apart after becoming entangled in window blind cords.

Sky News Story

From the story:

Two children in Staffordshire have died just five days apart after becoming entangled in window blind cords.

Harrison Joyce, three, from Lichfield was strangled by a long looped cord on February 4.
Five days later 16-month-old Lillian Bagnall-Lambe died in an almost identical incident in Stafford.
South Staffordshire coroner Andrew Haigh said: “I am saddened to have these two deaths reported to me.
“In due course I will be holding full inquests into the deaths but I feel it is appropriate at this time that parents of young children are reminded of the potential danger of blind cords.”

No team is Odds on for the Championship

With the title race still wide open there are some winning odds available on the eventual winners of the Championship.

On the Betfair exchange you can still get 2.6 on the Baggies with leaders Newcastle still on offer at 2.1 so if you think it is between these two teams you cannot go wrong by backing both. Fancy Forest’s chances of beating both the Albion and the Toon to the title? Well they are on offer at 8, so there is a massive return available for you there.

Newcastle are 1.02 and 1.03 respectively to manage a top 6 finish so those of you with a large fund available and looking for a return could do so with that market. Forest are almost evens to make the same top 6 finish too, so maybe your funds are worth placing there?

Promotion wise, Albion, Newcastle and Forest are 1.42, 1.3 and 2.58 with the 2 Welsh teams Cardiff and Swansea at 5.9 and 5.6.

If you are looking the other direction, you can always lay Newcastle in the title race at 2.12.

These odds are very fluid and trading opportunity’s will appear on and off as the days and weeks progress. Have you the nerve and the skill to trade these teams during the run in?

Sign up with Betfair to take advantage of these betting exchange odds and get your free £25 for signing up.

The trip to Cardiff also offers a few different bets, Cardiff are 2.92, Albion 2.62 anf 3.4 the draw is offered. You can get 10′s on an Albion single goal victory and 27′s on a 3 to 1 win, with west brom to win both halfs at 4.5.

Albions Roman Bednar returns to first team.

After a police caution and a 3 month ban by the FA, the Albion have now concluded their own internal investigation. Albion have handed out the largest fine allowed by the club and decided that coupled with the other punishments Bednar should be allowed back to the team with a clean slate.

From the very beginning Bednar has shown much remorse and cooperated fully with both the police and the FA, he has expressed a wish to be given a chance to make up to the club and fans. Roman has also volunteered to assist the FA in promoting their Drug Education programme and has pledged to give his own time and money to help set up a special Drug Education Module as part of the Albion Foundation’s Kickz programme.

Seeded Albion draw Rotherham home in the Carling Cup.

As one of the top 25 teams on end of last seasons league standings, Albion went in to the hat for the second round with the knowledge that they would not be facing higher opposition.

The draw resulted in a home tie scheduled for the week commencing Monday 25th August. This tie has only ever happened once before, in the 1977/78 season when Albion trounced them 4 nil at the Hawthorns. Although the last league meeting resulted in a Rotherham win by a single goal in 2004 after Albion had won the home fixture that season by 3 goals to nothing.

Bednar 3 month ban – but good news.

The FA have imposed a 3 month ban on Roman Bednar after he admitted possession and use of a prohibited substance, breaching FA Rule E25. He was summonsed to report to Derby County this afternoon following the allegations made in the News Of The World earlier in the year.

Luckily for Bednar the suspension has been backdated to the day Albion suspended him, meaning that it could have been a shrewd move by the Baggies. Albion now intend to complete their own internal investigation over the coming days and will decide on the strikers future. Should the Albion forgive and forget, Bednar will be eligible to rejoin the squad for training and match action immediately. The striker has continued to train with the Albion all this time, with permission from the FA on the basis that it was away from the rest of the squad and that he trained alone.

More Albion Support for Sir Bobbys Foundation and 2018 World Cup support.

Albion offered to carry support for Bid 2018 back in July and will carry the Bid 2018 logo on their unsponsored shirts for the Newcastle game this Saturday. Since agreeing this, sadly Sir Bobby passed away and as an ex Albion player, Sir Bobby’s foundation approached the Albion with a view to carrying the foundations logo on their shirts for this match. Because of the agreement already in place with Bid 2018, West Brom cannot carry the logo, however, have agreed to auction all shirts off after the game, with proceeds going to the foundation.

The club have already made a large donation to Sir Bobby’s foundation and have pledged further support in the future, including very large promotion of the charity at the home game versus Newcastle this Saturday.

What could be more a more fitting tribute than the opening game being Baggies versus Newcastle on a day where the Baggies are promoting the world cup bid, when Sir Bobby was one of the most successful England managers of all time?

Things that Albion are doing in Sir Bobby’s memory include opening a condolence book which will be available from the day of the Newcastle game until KO on the day of the Ipswich game, when it will then be sent on to his family. Albion have also invited former team mates to the Hawthorns for the Newcastle game. These players include Graham Williams, Don Howe, Derek Kevan, Alec Jackson, John Lovatt, Brian Macready, Brian Whitehouse, Stuart Williams, Stan Jones, Roy Horobin, Keith Smith, David Burnside and Chuck Drury. Each one of them an ex Albion player who played a long Sir Bobby at some point or another. They will be joined on the pitch at KO, by Ray Wilson, Chairman of the West Bromwich Albion Former Players’ Association to lead a minutes applause.

Sir Bobby made over 250 appearances for the Baggies between 56 and 62, netting on no fewer than 61 occasions. He served as club captain and broke In to the England team during this era in his illustrious career.

RIP Sir Bobby Robson

Sir Bobby Robson, the former England manager, has died aged 76.

The national team’s most successful manager since 1966, he was best-loved for guiding England to the World Cup semi final in 1990.

Robson began his football career while still at school in Langley Park, Durham. He signed with Fulham in 1950 and went on to play for West Bromwich Albion and England. However, he was better known as a coach, managing Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, PC Porto and Newcastle United. He was voted European manager of the year in 1997.

Robson made 20 appearances for the England team himself after making his debut in 1957. He played for Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.

Perhaps this will be a welcomed release from the pains and stress of the cancer that had attacked this great sporting legend? Instead of suffering when the season starts, Sir Bobby will be able to gaze down from heaven and enjoy the game that he has added to so much.

To a great sporting legend, arguably the best England manager ever there was and a great footballer too …

To the man that touched so many and gave more to the football world than he could ever have expected to have gained …

To the gentleman that you were …

We say to you Sir Bobby Robson – “Thanks for everything, not least the memories, thank you your distinguished career that gave so much to so many and thank you for being a gentleman right to the very end. God Bless You Sir and may you rest in peace.”
